Roller Crimper
Roller crimpers are used to terminate cover crops before planting cash crops, in support of Conservation Agriculture.
Kuys Industries Roller Crimper features:
- Replaces chemical herbicides such as glyphosate to terminate cover crops
- By rolling a cover crop just before planting, three of the four Conservation Agriculture principles are met:
– Minimum soil disturbance
– Permanent soil covers
– Living roots for as long as possible - Crimps the stalks without cutting it, reducing the possibility of re-growth
- Blade profile ensures smooth rolling action
- Simple, robust, and low maintenance
- Front or rear mounted: Front mounting allows termination of the cover crop and planting in one operation
- Ground pressure can be adjusted by filling the roller drum with water
- Manufactured in South Africa
- Customizable to individual user requirements
Roller Crimper models
The following roller crimper models are available, lead time 4-6 weeks from date of order:
- 1.5 m wide
- 3.0 m wide
- 4.5 m wide
- Custom size available on request
What is Conservation Agriculture?
Conservation Agriculture is a sustainable agriculture production system comprising a set of farming practices. It mimics nature as closely as possible, and is based on four core principles:
- Minimum soil disturbance (no tillage)
- Permanent soil covers
- Living roots in the soil for as long as possible
- Diversity in crop rotations
The goal is to improve the living organisms and organic material in the soil. For the same reason, the use of anorganic compost and chemical herbicides should be limited or avoided.
Advantages of Conservation Agriculture:
- Protect soil from erosion and degradation
- Improve soil quality and bio-diversity
- Preserve water
- Optimize yields
